Lieutenant Samuel Williams
Roster entry:   Williams, Samuel.  Co. C; b. Canaan.; age 41; res. Enfield; app. 2nd Lt. Nov. 15, '61; must. in Nov. 15, '61; app. 1st Lt. Apr. 29, '62; resigned July 23, '62.   Died Feb. 4, '78, Enfield.

Samuel Williams, resided in Enfield, New Hampshire as a teacher and farmer, and was elected chairman of the board of selectmen of Enfield in March 1861.  He resigned that position and enlisted as a private in Company C of the Seventh New Hampshire in the fall of 1861.  Williams mustered into service as a 2nd Lieutenant on November 15, 1862 and was promoted to 1st Lieutenant on April 29, 1862 while stationed in Fort Jefferson, Florida.  The climate of South Carolina and Florida, where the regiment had been stationed, brought on severe heart difficulty and on July 23, 1862, Williams' health became so impaired that he resigned his commission and returned home.  Williams died of heart disease February 4, 1878, at the age of 57 years.  (pp. 509-510).
