New Hampshire Sir: I have the honor to enclose the Medical certificate of Wm Henry Thayer Surg. 14 N.H. Vols., Act, Medical Director Military Dist of N.H. in regard to my health and ability to perform Military Duty, and regretting as I do my inability to do justice to my country and myself. I am forced to by my present and future prospect of health to tender my resignation as 2d Lieut of Co "A" 7th Regt. N.H. Vols. On the 28th of Oct. 1863, I forwarded my resignation to the Officer commanding my Regt., and on the 18th [ ] I received a communication dated [ ] Island Dec 13th 1863, signed by Geo. A. Taylor 1st Lieut and A. Adjt. stating that "no document of that kind can be considered here." You must tender your resignation while absent from the Department in which your regiment is serving to the Secretary of War and forward through the Commanding Officer at Concord N.H." I would also state that I have never receipted or have been responsible for any public or have been placed in any position that required Reports of any kind from me I have the honor to be Your abs servant Respectfully Brig.
