Description
Images from page 20 of Pan American Air Ways, Vol. 8, No. 6, June 1937. Caption reads: "The temporary service and storage base on Manhasset Bay, Long Island, across from New York City is a bustling place these days. Headquarters for the regular service to Bermuda, with alternate schedules by Pan American and the British Imperial Airways each week, it is all set up as a regular passenger terminal - complete with U.S. Customs, Immigration and Public Health - and a full set of those airport regulations as set up by Pan American. And, just to add to its bustle, the trail-blazing Pan American Clipper makes her home here between Transatlantic flights while the Empire trail-blazers of Imperial make this their terminal at the end of their ocean surveys. In a new one-story building beside the big hangar, the Atlantic Division makes its temporary headquarters. Here are random shots of a typical day."
