Description

image from page 9 of Pan American Air Ways, Vol. 8, No. 6, June 1937. Caption reads: "Santos Dumont Airport: Rio de Janeiro, most beautiful city in the world, has just completed what will rank as one of the finest airports in the world - a national airport of Brazil - on Rio's lovely Bay and within three minutes of the center of the city. The Pan American Airways' terminal was recently dedicated on that airport, at ceremonies attended by His Excellency Getulio Vargas, President of the United States of Brazil, Minister of Transportation Dr. Marques dos Reis, Minister of Agriculture Dr. Odilon Braga, Director of Civil Aviation Dr. Trajano Furtado Reis, and other of the highest Federal and Municipal authorities. The photos on this page were taken at the inauguration ceremonies when Presedient Vargas officially opened the splendid terminal buildingby drawing from the face of a commemorative plaque the national colors of Brazil, and during the inspection of the building and the base of the Clipper Ships, in which the President and his party expressed keen interest."
