1930s
attractions.Miami Beach, Miami, Florida : out-door sports capital of America
Travel and tourism were democratized in Miami in the 1930s as
a necessary response to the Great Depression. Rather than touting the
exclusive nature of Miami’s tourist offerings, local boosters now highlighted
the region’s affordability.
This 1933 promotional brochure still promised sunny health
and moonlit romance, but at a price all pocketbooks could afford. The
brochure promised potential visitors that there was always something
interesting to do in Miami Beach, whether one collected "beer labels or polo
ponies." It also reminded readers of the enormous savings in fuel and
clothing costs they would reap if they spent their winters in the tropical
climate of Miami.
