"At Fort Jefferson in April, 73 men were admitted to the hospital; 72 from the 7th New Hampshire and one from the 13th New York. The usual ailments were represented, plus bronchitis, consumption, erysipelas, tonsillitis, jaundice, pleurisy, hernia, rheumatism, amaurosis, etc. At least seven men had died during the month." p. 191 |
