Alejandro Contreras
Alejandro Contreras was born on September 6, 1983 in Caracas, Venezuela. He moved to the United States at the age of 15 and studied at Design and Architecture Senior High and later received his BFA from the New World School of the Arts. In his art, he studies and develops different materials that are common primary products in the advertisement world. He uses vinyl as a primary product to frame indigenous people in relation to his culture. In doing so, he portrays the different elements between a product that is really commercial and really plastic-like, to portray images of indigenous humans close to nature, that don't have any relation what so ever with this field. Simultaneously, he attempts to break apart from the original qualities of these elements while combining them on to the same surface.
