Florida, from the Latest Authorities

Jefferys, Thomas (1699-1775)

This map, which is almost identical to the Gibson map, was published in London Magazine and in William Roberts. An Account of the First Discovery and Natural History of Florida in London in 1765. Like the Gibson map, many of the coastal names are in Spanish. The northern border of West Florida is at 31° North latitude and the area north of it is labeled “Reserved Lands,” referring to the area designated to the Indians. The Georgia and Carolina borders are similar to the Scacciati-Pazzi map of the same date. This map differs from a later map by Jefferys of 1771. (q.v.)
