Hail to the Spirit of Miami U
One of UM's first traditions was the adoption of "Hail to the Spirit of Miami U," as a football cheer. The words to the song were written by Dale Clark in 1929 and the music was composed by Ted Kennedy in 1930. The tempo directive on the score says "Pep it up."
Hail to the Spirit of Miami U Hail to the Spirit of Miami U
Hail to her pride and glory free
Hail to her Orange Green and White so true
Hail to her fighting varsity
May her banners wave o'er vanquished foes
In our hearts may she always be
Hail to the Spirit of Miami U
We pledge our faith and loyalty.
