South Campus Established, 1946
The South Campus, the former Richmond Naval Air Base at Coral Reef Drive SW 152nd Street & SW 127th Avenue, was opened in the Fall of 1946. For two years the South Campus provided housing, dining and recreational facilities and classrooms for about 1100 students, mainly freshmen. From 1948 to present it has been used as a research facility and storage area.

South Campus Students Relax
The University of Miami South Campus, located 12 miles south of the Main Campus at the former Richmond Naval Air Base, was used as a second campus from 1947 through 1948. It had classrooms, housing, eating and recreational facilities for about 1,000 students. Although the South Campus offered everything the students needed, they felt out of touch with the rest of the University. As Main Campus buildings were built, more and more classes were relocated there. Today the South Campus is used for library storage and research.
