Roster entry:  Brown, William W. F. and S.;  b. Vershire, Vt.; age 57; res. Manchester; app. Surg. Oct. 19, '61; must. in Dec. 14, '61; resigned July 22, '64. Died Jan. 6, '74, Manchester.

William Brown was born in Vershire, Vermont in 1805 and attended local schools.  In 1825, he attended the academy in Hudson, New York and taught school in New York State for two years.  In 1828, he began the study of medicine under John Poole, M.D., at Bradford, Vermont.  On October 19, 1861, Brown was appointed the surgeon of the Seventh New Hampshire Volunteers, and served until July 22, 1864, when he retired due to ill health.    (pp. 520-522).
