Cartographer:

Cram, George Franklin (1842-1928)

Summary:

George Cram was a teacher, soldier, and founder of the Cram firm of engravers and publishers in Chicago. After service in the Union Army, Cram became a clerk in his Uncle Rufus Blanchard's firm and in 1867 became a partner, “He established his own company, George F. Cram in 1869.”* He was one of the most prolific map and atlas publishers in the United States including detailed maps of individual states, railroad maps and war maps of the First World War. His business was sold to the National Map Company in 1920.
This lithographical map is included because the counties are easy to identify due to the green borders and boldly printed names. The identification of counties and their boundaries is probably the easiest way to date Florida maps, but some maps obscure the boundaries or names; making the process rather difficult.
