Summary:

This map shows changes in some of the County boundaries that occurred in the 1870's. Dade County's northern boundary is at the top of Lake Okeechobee in the 1880's to 1900. Prior to that, it angled down toward the east from the lower or mid lake area. The southeastern boundary of Washington County extends to Apalachicola Bay, which occurred in 1873. Manatee County's eastern boundary goes all the way along the western coast of Lake Okeechobee which occurred prior to 1880. Longitude is west from Greenwich and Washington which was the designation on maps during this period. The prime meridian in the present location in Greenwich, England was adopted by the world in 1884.
