Title:

A map of the peninsula of Florida showing the present field of surveying in the territory

Cartographer:

Conway, V.Y.

Summary:

The title of this map is taken from another copy that is not colored. This survey shows townships only in the extreme east coast to an area previously called Indian Hunting Ground and on the west coast down to Charlotte Harbor. This image if designated on later maps (1855) as the Tampa Land District. The area north of Lake Okeechobee has no surveys in the inland and a dotted line is labeled, “Line of the 20 mile Indian Reserve.” This and later maps emphasize the swamplands. The northern and western portions of the state as well as the Keys were surveyed separately and mapped in greater detail.
