This map shows only four counties. St. Johns occupies almost the entire peninsula and the publication was before the creation of Gadsden county from Jackson in 1823. Similar to other maps of the time and earlier it shows Mayaco Lake (Okeechobee) as the source of the St. John River, Tampa Bay is still labeled Spirito Santo Bay and Key West is “on Thompson's Island named after an early settler who brought the cigar makers to Key West from Cuba.” The notation in the Everglades copies some of Vignole's words i.e. “Inundated Region called the Everglades”.
This map was engraved by B.T. Welch and Drawn and Published by Fielding Lucas in Baltimore in his General Atlas, which was originated in 1812.
