Title:

Il disegno del discoperto della noua Franza...

Cartographer:

Forlani, Paolo de

Summary:

One of the names on this bizarre image is La Florida on an almost square peninsula. It was later published by Bolognino Zaltieri.

Forlani was a copper plate engraver and publisher from Verona who worked in Venice with mapmakers Camorio, F. Bortelli and B. Zaltieri who produced the perhaps first printed map exclusively devoted to North America. Even maps that had his name on them were according to him derived from other sources because he was primarily an engraver. For instance, the so-called Forlani-Zaltieri map of North America is partially based on a map of the world by Giacomo Gastaldi (1546).
