Title:

La Floride

Cartographer:

duVal, Pierre

Summary:

This image is a reproduction of the original 5" x 5" miniature engraving and shows Floride extending southwest to the Rio de Palmas in what is now Mexico and north to the mountains (Apalachians?) where there is a border and the name Canada above it. Northeast of the peninsula labeled Tegeste prequ'Isle (peninsula) there is an area called Florida Francoise and Virginie on a small area northeast of that.

Pierre Duval was the nephew and pupil of Nicolas Sanson d'Abbeville. He published many maps including miniature atlases from which this image was derived. It was probably copied from the Sanson map of 1600-1662.
