Cuba's Colonial Period was a time for discovery and exploration, for settlement and development. Great thinkers, scientists, and philosophers wrote significant books and works of art illustrating the beauty of the island, the bounty of the country, and its strategic significance in the region.

The role of Spain in the governance of Cuba and the country's movement toward sovereignty and independence are among two of the most prevalent forces that shaped the history of Colonial Cuba. The Cuban Heritage Collection contains a sizeable number of books, periodicals, and archival materials that relate to the Colonial period. The following images are but a sampling of the items we own.

El período de la Cuba colonial fue una era de descubrimiento y exploración, de asentamiento y desarrollo. Grandes intelectuales, científicos, y filósofos escribieron importantes libros y obras de arte ilustrando la belleza de la isla, la riqueza del país y su importancia estratégica en la región.

El papel de España en el gobierno de Cuba y el movimiento del país hacia la soberanía e independencia constituyeron dos de las más decisivas fuerzas que conformaron la historia de la Cuba colonial. La Cuban Heritage Collection contiene un apreciable número de libros, revistas, periódicos y materiales de archivo relativos al período colonial.
