Anthurium: A Caribbean Studies Journal is pleased to celebrate its 5th Anniversary with this special issue from the Archaeologies of Black Memory Symposium and Seminar held at the University of Miami in the summer of 2007. This issue, like several others, is the culmination of a collaborative effort with other scholarly institutions dedicated to Caribbean literature and culture. In this case, we partnered with the Small Axe Collective in order to host a symposium and seminar on the role and importance of archives in producing knowledge about African Diaspora subjects. Our other partners in previous special issues included the University of the West Indies and the Historical Museum of South Florida. |

However, our most important, and longstanding partnership has been with the Otto G. Richter Library’s Digital Media Lab. Through the innovative vision of Sandra Pouchet Paquet of the English Department and Jeff Barry of the Otto G. Richter Library, we began with a special issue in honor of Kamau Brathwaite and have continued to grow as journal that features art, scholarly essays, poetry, short fiction and reviews. Recently our publications have also included scholarship on the work of visual artists, commentary on current issues in Caribbean studies and, in this issue, our first travelogue. We are proud to have a readership across the United States, Canada, Central and South America, many countries in the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. We would like to thank those of you who continue to support refereed open access academic e-journals such as ours. The editors of Anthurium remain committed to bridging the digital divide by making peer reviewed, scholarly articles and creative writing available to teachers, students, scholars and persons interested in Caribbean literature and culture worldwide without fee based subscriptions. We invite our readership to continue to support us in this venture by sending their work and their feedback to us about the journal. |
